LATEST NEWS

Our Fractional Ownership group receives updates on no less than a bi-weekly basis (generally weekly) via email, even during the CoVid lock down.  The contents of these emails are not generally published to the website.

You can visit the individual horses pages to see the collection of photographs taken of each using the links shown here or in the site navigation.

In 2021, video productions have been added to the method of communication.  As the physical location of our group members expands, many are unable to visit the barn.  The videos provide a way for all individuals to connect with the horses from a distance.

MEET THE TRAINER - SCOTT MCNIVEN

Picture
Scott McNiven comes by his love for horses naturally as a member of the extended McNiven family including uncles Don and Jack (Killean Acres) and brother Rob (Twinbrook Farm).

In the earlier stages of his career he worked with Jack Kopas and Jim Rankin and trained and raced at Buffalo and Batavia racetracks.  As his stable grew and consisted mostly of Ontario breds, he moved to Flamboro Downs.  He has spent the last 30 years training his stable of horses at Dorchester Fairgrounds in Dorchester, Ontario.

His niche is finding value in yearlings and successfully campaigning them into aged careers.  He manages a stable of up to 20 horses and has owners that have trusted him with their horse for more than 20 years.

Scott boasts over 1,000 win and close to $9 million dollars in purses won.

Scott's success with the horses would not be possible without the contributions from his wife of 20 years, Kim who administers the operations of the barn and daughter Kelley who is actively involved working with the horses when she is not consumed by university studies and his many staff.

"Scott is very good with young horses and has proven it, he really looks after the horses well and this is why he continues to train horses for me" - Tom Brodhurst

Bridge Street, shown with Kim McNiven at 20 years old, campaigned until he was 11 years old, amassing $674,000 while never racing in a stakes race.  He was recently inducted into the Western Fair District Wall of Fame.

MEET THE FACILITATOR

PictureJackie is shown with Blue Line, a horse she owned in a private ownership group.
The facilitator of the group is Jackie McManus, a long time standardbred enthusiast, owner and photographer.

She developed the vision for OAS2020 from her experiences in other ownership groups she has participated in (or continues to be a member of) including SBOA Mentor, Landmark, theStable and private shared ownership.

She looks to  combine the most appreciated aspects of all other fractional ownership groups into a new cost effective structure that appeals to a new or wider participant base.

She expects her role in the first year of this fractional ownership structure to be a great amount of work.   Jackie will be the main source of the information flow to the group which will include her responsibility as website developer, photographer and videographer (a new skill she is yet to master).  As a professional accountant by trade, she will also be providing monthly statements of accounts to the group so they are well informed with timely information.

She would like to see others develop their own fractional ownership groups to help the viability of their stable and the industry.  There is not a "one size fits all" formula to fractional ownership and OwnAStandardbred.com is one that promises to be "Just A Little Different From Everyone Else"   For complete details, please visit the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
