HOW MUCH OF A HORSE WILL I OWN?
This depends on the number of units that are sold this year, the cost of the horses purchased and the percentage of each horse that OAS 2022 will own. Historically, a $500 unit would equate to less than a 1% share in the ownership of each horse.
WILL THERE BE ANY COSTS TO OWNING PART OF A RACEHORSE?
There are two costs that are noteworthy.
1. As an owner of a race horse you will be required to hold a license with Standardbred Canada ($45-$100 per year depending on if you have previously owned a horse) and the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario ($100 per year).
2. The financial model of the OAS program is designed such that the funds received from owners in the fall, will be sufficient to cover the costs of training and racing the horses for the first calendar year after they are purchased. There is always a risk with equine athletes that they may not earn enough to cover their costs. Should that be the case, each owner would contribute their proportionate share to cover the costs of the horse.
WHEN WILL THE WINNER BE ANNOUNCED?
The grand prize draw will take place on Monday, September 7, 2021.
GOOD LUCK!!
